For lunch I had something I made in the crockpot: chicken, vegetables, peach mango salsa, salsa Verde and a bunch of spices.
Dinner was a spinach quiche and a slice of focaccia.

It was raining very hard so we did not play volleyball tonight. Rescheduled for Friday night. If I have enough players on my team I will play.

Played handball for an hour and a half. Didn’t push it too long but I did swing very hard over and over again. Minimal pain. Played well.

For breakfast I had egg whites, almond milk, chicken sausage, some shredded cheddar, and a little Mexican mix on two small pieces of whole wheat bread.
Lunch was deli chicken slices on whole wheat with hummus.
Went to Left Coast Kitchen for dinner. Had popcorn, Mac and cheese, and shrimp and grits. 2 beers.
Had almost half a bottle of whiskey.

My shoulder is hurting today. I made a few diving plays at volleyball last night and I know on one of them I really stretched out the shoulder. Must’ve been hurt then. Anyway it looks like no handball Saturday.

I was out east, waiting for my car to get worked on. I walked a couple of miles and stopped in a diner for lunch. I had a whole wheat wrap with grilled salmon, lettuce, tomato, and a side of fries.
Had a peanut butter cookie.
Dinner was a small piece of turkey, meatballs, home fries, potato latkes.

Played beach volleyball despite the awful burning sensation in my inner rectum. I actually played pretty well. Guess it was a good thing to have a fire burning on my ass. Had half of a Michelob ultra draft.

For lunch I had a grilled cheese sandwich from the cafeteria. It had grilled chicken, cheddar, avocado, jalapeno, with a side of kettle chips.

At dinner I had red wine, cantaloupe, vegetable barley soup, chicken noodle soup, chicken cutlets, green beans and carrots, brisket and spinach & noodles.
Topped it off with a rainbow cookie and a sip of Yoo-Hoo.

Big news day!

Today is the day that I found out I got the job in Manhattan Beach California!
I’m very excited to move out there and kill it on a regular basis, year round!

Started the day with protein pancakes.
Last night at 11 PM I put an 8 1/2 pound pork shoulder in the smoker. When Laura’s brother Adam got here around 2 PM it was ready. A nice 14 hour slow smoke.
I took it out and shredded it. It was perfect. I had three sandwiches with a little barbecue sauce on small whole wheat buns.
Then Laura made some peanut butter cookies and I had a few of those.
And finally, to make matters worse, dinner was five fried cappellini from Umbertos.

Woke up hungover and without intentions of playing handball due to my heel. I just want to give it a couple of days to heal. Pun intended.

For breakfast I had a couple of bites of leftovers from last nights Pita Lovers.
Had a bag of baked potato chips while driving to NJ.
At the BBQ I had 2 Guinness, 3 glasses of red wine. Food was steak, chicken, chili, lasagna and a tamale. 3 cookies and a macaroon.
In the ride home there was a lot of traffic on the Belt Parkway so we stopped in Sheepshead Bay for a bite to eat at Roll N Roaster.

Had 1 and a half Miller Genuine Drafts at volleyball.

I was playing great volleyball tonight. Running down balls, diving, spiking(!) from the front of the net and even a bunch from the deep end of court. That all came crashing to a halt about an hour in, when my buddy Eddie crashed his shin into my right heel. Immediately it was hard to stand, so I couldn’t help but let a bunch of balls drop in close to me since it was so hard to move.
We went 1-2 but played really well. John wasn’t there so we only had 4 players vs the other team’s 6. And considering we are all in our mid 40’s and the other team were in their 20’s, not too shabby.

I limped back to my car. It was killing me. As they say, when it rains it pours. Sometimes kinda literally.
In the dark parking lot, I went to pee behind my car as I always do. Well, tonight I peed right on my hurting foot. No, not on purpose.

I think its feeling a little better an hour after the injury. I hope it’s not too bad tomorrow morning.

Then there were bags of breakfast sandwiches when I got to my desk, so I grabbed a sausage egg and cheese. Tore off a lot of bread but still bad.

For lunch the MeltMobile was outside the office again. Today I went healthy with the 350 calorie Svelte Melt. Lowfat jarlsberg, turkey, tomatoes on 7 grain bread.
Dinner was a piece of salmon and a broccoli soufflé.

Woke up hurting from the day before so no handball was played.

My buddy Jimmy was up from Maryland for the golf outing and stayed over.
We went to the diner for breakfast. I had an omelette with spinach and feta cheese, side of home fries, whole wheat toast.
Had a beer in the backyard while power washing the house. It looks fantastic!

Hasson open Friday

Today is the big day, seeing a bunch of my old Cantor buddies while we play golf on a closed course in Brooklyn. Lots of unhealthy things will be around. Lets see how I do.

Started the day eating a handful of red grapes in the car. Good.
At work, had a whole wheat wrap with egg whites, turkey sausage, onions and swiss. Good.
Had a snack of peanut butter and banana before leaving the office instead of the giant food order from Katz’s Deli that had just arrived. Oh my. Not easy. Great so far.
Stopped at a restaurant called Fuel before arriving at the golf course and picked up a healthy chicken quesadilla. I know before tee off there is a gathering where they have 6 foot heroes, and I didn’t want to partake in that either. Excellent so far.
Before playing I drank a Russian Imperial Stout and that sent me on my way. I had three or four more of those during the round of golf. At the shot hole I think I had six or seven shots of vodka.

Thursday 8/22

Breakfast today was a small handful of red grapes.
2 hours later I had a bite of turkey jerky.
An hour later, a few cashews.
For lunch I had chicken chili. There was a ton of BBQ in the office, so I had a bite of a rib, a couple scoops of mashed potatoes and 3 pieces of macaroni from the mac and cheese. Sounds bad, but it all started when someone dropped a huge package of french fries on my desk, which I quickly gave away. Food was everywhere and I was starving and was involved in some important work so I couldn’t get up to heat up the chili so I picked at that stuff.
Dinner was swordfish on the grill with a side of sweet potato tots.

Played beach volleyball for an hour. Very good games. We went 2-1. Had 1 beer.

Watched the movie Flight tonight. Excellent job on the intense flying scenes. Overall a 7 out of 10.

BBQ and Huey Lewis

Our friends Mike and Allison are coming over today so I had some things to take care of got in the way of a full handball morning.

Breakfast was scrambled egg whites with a little almond milk, turkey maple sausage, cheddar cheese, and mushrooms.
For lunch I had a sandwich made of whole wheat bread with deli chicken breast and red pepper hummus.
When our friends came over we had some chicken wings that I had cooked in the smoker for 90 minutes and then made crispy on the grill for a few minutes. I had made baby back ribs for four hours in the smoker and had a bunch of those with a side of roasted corn. Had a couple of Imperial Stout’s and a couple of oatmeal Stout’s.

Lunch was chicken stirfry, with corn, peas, mushrooms, carrots, and onions with reduced sodium soy sauce. I added a small scoop of peanut butter to it.
Snack was a bite of turkey jerky and a small bag of kettle chips.
For dinner I grilled up the last turkey burger, and had it on a whole wheat bun with low fat Swiss cheese.
Had a couple of beers in the yard, and then a couple of beers at Doug’s house. Had about five smart puffs too.

Played Doug ping-pong for about an hour. Beating the life out of him.

Dinner was a turkey burger in whole wheat bun with low fat swiss and BBQ sauce. Had 3 oatmeal stout beers.
Had 2 bites of freshly smoked brisket at my neighbors.

Played 5 holes of golf after work and hit the ball really well. Teed off on a par 3 and landed on the green. Awesome. Unfortunately had to leave after 5 holes since I had an appointment.

No workout today, needed the rest. Although I did try to play around of golf at Merrick, but I forgot that it is closed on Wednesdays. What are horrible day.

Dinner was less than half of a sandwich that my wife did not finish for lunch. It had shrimp and vegetables and maybe some cheese. Then I made a bag of popcorn while I watched TV.
Finished it off with five little power berries.

Played handball with the A crowd for three hours.

Got up and did 25 push-ups.

Had a bite of Trader Joes turkey jerky. Delicious. Gotta pick some up next time.
Lunch was panko crusted tilapia and half a baked potato.
Snack was a bag of potato chips.
For dinner I made chicken stirfry, using corn, peas, mushrooms, carrots, and onions with reduced sodium soy sauce.

Went for a bike ride tonight and pushed it as hard as I could.

Sunday weigh in, awful golf

Weighed 186 today. Not bad.

Breakfast was a large bottle of Russian imperial stout on the golf course at Lido Beach. The course sucked, as did I, but the stout did not disappoint.
I played awful. Shot a 72. But on 9 holes.

Saturday Handball Marathon

Lunch was a whole wheat wrap with chicken cutlet, alpine lace, onions, chipotle mayo. With a small bag of sweet Maui onion kettle chips.
Dinner was a tuna melt.

Played handball for five hours. That’s ridiculous. A lot of great games, especially the last one. Pete and I were both extremely tired after a long day, played a fresh team that was beating us very badly at the beginning, and came back to win it.
Came home for a victory jump in the cold pool. After that, my body was useless.

At the last minute we went to a comedy club with our friends where I had 3 pints of Guinness and saw this funny bastard

Thursday 8/8

Not related to any of my usual topics, but this is noteworthy. There is a short 2-mile stretch of highway close to my office where the average speed of all cars is 80mph. Anyway I saw my speedometer was at 85 so I lightly pressed down on my gas pedal, and in a second I was cruising at 92. Top speed so far with this car. Effortlessly. Who says a Prius can’t kick ass?

Had a banana with peanut butter at 7am.
10am whole wheat wrap, egg whites, cheddar, turkey. A couple of spoons of corned beef hash.
Lunch was baked chicken with a side is chick peas and spinach
Dinner was a trader joes quesadilla.
Had 2 glasses of wine at as Italian restaurant while my oil was being changed.
Tried the wife’s chocolate chips cookies.

Hit golf balls for 30 minutes. Some good, some bad.
Played beach volleyball for an hour. Very windy out there so it wasn’t much fun.

Hit golf balls for a half hour and all my drives were excellent. So I can’t figure out why they were so horrible on Sunday.

Got up early to go play golf. Only had 6 leftover tater tots so I ate those and headed out.
At the course I had a few bites of a buttered bagel. While playing I had 4 or 5 beers.
I had a good time out there but it was very frustrating as I only hit 1 good shot off the tee out of the 18 holes. My true score was 134. Just horrendous.

After the 5 and a half hour round I ate Laura’s leftover scallops, then passed out in my recliner for an hour or two, and woke with a pounding headache. Mowed the lawn, put air in the bicycle’s tires, and was starving so I grabbed a southwest panini and fries from Pita Lovers.
Helped Graham move a dresser that must weigh 10,000lbs.
Dinner was a baked potato.

Lunch was a grilled chicken sandwich with avocado from smash burger.
Snack was homemade popcorn.
Dinner was swordfish and pasta with a side of sweet potato tater tots at left Coast kitchen. Had two Belgian stouts to wash it down.
Had some whiskey with family before bed.

I was able to play 2 1/2 hours of Handball before the rain came, played great, and beat out one of the best teams there in a very close game.

Breakfast was bacon egg and cheese on a whole wheat wrap.
Lunch was a slice and a half of white pizza.
Dinner was chicken sausage whole-wheat pasta.
Late night snack was the last of the pasta.

Hit golf balls for a half an hour at the range.

Breakfast was peanut butter and oatmeal, followed 3 hours later by a whole wheat wrap with egg whites, turkey sausage, and cheddar.
Lunch was chicken stir fry.
Snack was a handful of tortilla chips.
Dinner was chicken sausage with whole wheat pasta.

After work I went to the doctor for a yearly physical. Everything is good so far. Got a tetanus shot, so I’m all set for 10yrs. Will get blood work in a couple of weeks. Declined the prostate exam, as I had eaten Indian food the day before and could not allow the pretty blonde nurse practitioner to do it. Little Jack Horner came to mind.

Unfortunately beach volleyball was not cancelled, so I played for an hour in the hard driving rain. It wasn’t fun at the time, but as I was driving home I felt pleased, as I had run around and made more than a few diving saves during the match. We lost all 3 games anyway.

A perfect day to not go to work.

Started the day at 6am to drive out to a driving range to practice for 30 minutes in NJ to warm up for my round of golf.
Headed over to Old Orchard to tee off at 9am. I did not destroy the course. While I am new and suck, I did a lot of things well. All my drives off the tee were playable, some of them excellent. My highlight was a chip off the green that went in the hole. Amazing! I shot a 114, which is way down from my previous. Worth noting, I count every stroke, I do not max out at 3 over as I guess some people do.

After that, I headed over to my wife’s favorite place, the Monmouth Bath & Tennis Club for a swim and snack.

The Day of Mike continued as I went into the city to grab some dinner from my favorite Indian restaurant Curry In A Hurry.
It was about 7:30pm so I had a perfect, traffic-free ride home.

Breakfast: 2 Zone bars (that’s all they had available at the course that early)
Golf: 5 beers
Lunch: a chicken quesadilla and a lemonade at the pool club
Dinner: vegetable fritters, chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, basmati rice, and a snapple iced tea

Tuesday 7/30

Started the day with 25 push-ups.

Breakfast was a whole wheat wrap with egg whites, turkey sausage, Swiss.
Lunch was chicken stirfry, with vegetables, a scoop of brown rice, and reduced sodium soy sauce.
Snack was peanut butter and banana.
Had a can of Guinness on the way into the city.
Dinner was at one of my all time favorites, Baby Bo’s. I had a grilled chicken breast with rice and beans, and their famous chipotle sauce. Washed it down with about 4 coconut margaritas.
Then we stopped into Rodeo bar, another old favorite. Bartender Lindsay poured me a DOA IPA “HOP ON OR DIE”. 20130731-012823.jpg
Pretty strong at 6.8%abv. Took one for the train ride home. Nice.

Went to hit some golf balls today after work and shot a little bit better than 50% of good shots. I’m playing an actual round of golf tomorrow with my friends in New Jersey and don’t want to embarrass myself, or feel that my practicing has gone to waste. Either way, I’m excited.

Breakfast was a whole wheat wrap with egg whites, turkey sausage, Swiss.
Lunch was chicken and beef stirfry, with vegetables, a scoop of brown rice, and reduced sodium soy sauce.
Snack was peanut butter and banana.
Dinner was a chicken patty cooked on the grill, and whole wheat pasta.

I hit golf balls after work for a half an hour at the range, most of them kind of bad. Two days off has allowed me to lose my swing a bit. At the end of my balls I was able to fit them much better though.
After that I went to play handball. Played for two hours. I played handball much better than I hit golf balls.
For good measure, I came home and did five pull-ups.

Sunday 7/28

Started the day with protein pancakes.
Lunch was a Trader Joe’s quesadilla with a side of refried beans.
For a snack I had a handful of tortilla chips.
For dinner I grilled up another piece of swordfish, with a side of whole wheat pasta and garlic and oil.

My exercise today was working around the house. I had an old ping-pong table that was pretty ruined so I took it apart and put the pieces to the dump. It was very hot and humid and I was sweating buckets. I took a short break to take a picture of this rabbit that was right outside my door.

Saturday 7/27

Started the day with chicken sausage and egg whites.
Lunch was a turkey burger on a dug-out whole wheat bun, with some sprinkled Colby jack and BBQ sauce.
At my nieces birthday party I had 2 chicken fingers, a handful of cheese doodles, a bite of a cookie. Washed down with 2 Bud Light Platinums. Watery.
Dinner was a piece of grilled swordfish and a side of chickpeas.
Had a large bottle of stout and 2 fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. My wife makes the best.

Did 5 pull-ups while breakfast was cooking.
Played handball for almost 4 hours. Absolutely killed it.
Played a half hour of ping pong.

Friday 7/26

I started off the day with a banana and peanut butter.
Three hours later I had a whole wheat wrap with egg whites, turkey, Swiss.
At lunch time a ton of pizza was delivered, from that great place in Connecticut that makes it thin and crispy. I had a few slices with sausage. Of course, those slices are much smaller than regular slices. We decided that three of those slices equals one regular slice.
For dinner I grilled a piece of swordfish on the barbecue, and had a side of spaghetti squash.
As a snack I had Trader Joe’s dark chocolate covered powerberries, just a small handful.

After work I stopped at the driving range and hit balls for 90 minutes. I probably hit close to 200 balls today. I think maybe four of them were bad. I am definitely figuring this out!
I did 2 pull-ups today to test the new bar. I’m out of practice!

Thursday 7/25

Breakfast. Whole wheat wrap, egg whites, turkey sausage, swiss.
Lunch. 2 slices of whole wheat pizza with portabella and peppers.
Dinner was a Trader Joe’s pesto and tomato flatbread.
Had a few cashews for a snack.

After work I stopped to hit golf balls for 20 minutes. The first two shots were terrible but the next 38 were from very decent to amazing. I am definitely improving.

Catching up

Well I’ve let myself go as far as writing this blog. I will get back into it now.

Hard to say what I’ve been doing and eating at this point.

Yesterday was a whole wheat wrap with egg whites, turkey sausage and swiss.

Lunch was a whole wheat wrap with chicken, swiss, onion, lettuce, avocado and a little mayo.

Snack was a banana and pb.
Dinner was a piece of baked tilapia and roasted corn.

Passed on 2 cakes at work.

Hit golf balls for 20 minutes. I think I’m definitely improving. At least I’m making contact 65% of the time now.

Played an hour of beach volleyball.

Previous to yesterday, it’s all foggy. For the most part I’ve been eating well, except for a few bags of various Trader Joes snacks. But I usually try to get the healthier choices.
I’ve been hitting golf balls every day since Sunday. Played handball for 3 and a half hours in Saturday against the best competition. Played again on Tuesday but rain cut it short after 1 excellent game. Played midnight ping pong Saturday for a couple of hours. Been swimming some light laps in the pool regularly.
